Description

Discover the vibrant expression of Spanish white wine with the 2022 Cune Rueda Verdejo. Produced by the historic CVNE (Compañía Vinícola del Norte de España)—a legendary name traditionally associated with the fine wines of Rioja—this bottle showcases their expertise extended into the sun-drenched, high-altitude vineyards of the Rueda region. Verdejo is the star of this D.O., and Cune treats it with the respect it deserves, utilizing modern, protective winemaking techniques to capture the grape's intense aromatic profile.

Upon pouring, you are greeted by a brilliant, pale straw color with youthful greenish reflections. The nose is immediate and captivating, offering a bouquet dominated by tropical fruits like pineapple and ripe peach, intricately balanced with the classic herbaceous notes of fennel and fresh-cut boxwood that define high-quality Verdejo. On the palate, the wine is delightfully dry and exceptionally crisp. It strikes a perfect balance between a rich, slightly oily texture—characteristic of the variety—and a vibrant, refreshing acidity that makes it incredibly approachable.

This is a wine crafted for enjoyment rather than lengthy cellaring; it is a 'joven' (young) wine designed to be consumed for its immediate freshness and zest. It shines brightest when served well-chilled, making it the perfect companion for warm afternoons or as an elegant start to a meal. Its aromatic complexity and balanced structure allow it to pair beautifully with a diverse range of dishes. It is a natural partner for seafood, such as grilled prawns or ceviche, and elevates fresh salads and vegetable dishes. Furthermore, its ability to handle subtle herbal and aromatic flavors makes it an excellent choice for sushi and lighter Asian-inspired cuisine. Whether you are hosting a casual gathering or simply looking for an impeccable, everyday drinking wine, the Cune Rueda Verdejo offers a sophisticated, reliably delicious experience that captures the heart of Spanish winemaking.

Your Notes

Not bad, quite typical Verdejo, fresh and crisp, a bit too fruity for my taste. It'd be great with some grilled fish. Not bad at all.
