Red wine | Veneto, Valpolicella Classico, Italy
Imagine yourself transported to the rolling hills of Veneto, Italy, where the sun-drenched vineyards of Valpolicella Classico produce wines of exceptional character. It's here, in the heart of this renowned region, that Cantina Valpolicella Negrar crafts its exquisite Valpolicella Ripasso Classico Superiore, a wine that captures the very essence of Italian winemaking tradition. This is not your everyday Valpolicella. The Ripasso method elevates this wine to new heights of complexity and depth. The grapes - Corvina, Rondinella, and Molinara - are carefully selected and vinified. Then, the wine undergoes a secondary fermentation on the still-warm, gently pressed grape skins from Amarone production. This process, known as "ripassare," imparts richness, structure, and layers of flavor that set it apart. The result is a symphony of aromas and tastes. On the nose, you'll be greeted by enticing scents of ripe cherries, plums, and hints of dried fruit. The palate is equally delightful, with a harmonious balance of fruit, spice, and earthy notes. The wine's velvety tannins and vibrant acidity provide a long, satisfying finish. Cantina Valpolicella Negrar is a historic winery deeply rooted in the Valpolicella region. With a commitment to sustainable viticulture and meticulous winemaking practices, they strive to produce wines that reflect the unique terroir of their vineyards. This Valpolicella Ripasso Classico Superiore is a testament to their dedication and passion. The wine's versatility makes it a perfect accompaniment to a wide range of dishes. Pair it with hearty pasta dishes, grilled meats, or aged cheeses to elevate your dining experience. It's also delicious on its own, sipped slowly and savored as the flavors unfold. This wine is especially good with Osso Buco, Risotto with Mushrooms, or aged Pecorino cheese. Whether you're a seasoned wine connoisseur or a curious beginner, this Valpolicella Ripasso Classico Superiore offers a journey of discovery. It's a taste of Italy, a celebration of tradition, and a testament to the artistry of winemaking. This wine is the perfect choice for a special occasion or simply to share with friends and family around a table laden with good food and conversation. Open a bottle and let the flavors transport you to the enchanting world of Valpolicella. The wine is ready to drink now, but can also be cellared for a few years to further develop its complexity.
Quite enjoyable, though the ripe fruit notes are a bit much for my taste. Could use a bit more acidity to balance the richness. Decent structure, though.
