Sparkling wine | Douro, Portugal
The Vila Paraíso Reserva Doce is a delightful sparkling wine produced by Caves da Cerca in the heart of the Douro Valley, Portugal. This region, famed for its Port wines and increasingly recognized for its high-quality table wines, provides a unique terroir that lends character and complexity to sparkling wines. Made using the 'Método Clássico' (Traditional Method), similar to Champagne production, this wine undergoes a second fermentation in the bottle, which imparts a fine mousse and enhances its aromatic depth.
As a 'Doce' (sweet) sparkling wine, it presents a luscious sweetness that is beautifully balanced by crisp acidity, resulting in a refreshing and elegant experience on the palate. Aromas of ripe orchard fruits like pear and apple intermingle with floral notes, creating an inviting bouquet. On the palate, it delivers flavors of honey, apricot, and a hint of citrus, supported by delicate bubbles that dance across the tongue. The finish is clean and lingering, leaving a sweet and refreshing aftertaste.
The Vila Paraíso Reserva Doce is an incredibly versatile wine, making it perfect for celebrations, festive occasions, or simply enjoying as an aperitif. Its sweetness makes it an ideal partner for desserts such as fruit tarts, crème brûlée, or even lighter chocolate-based treats. It also pairs wonderfully with spicy Asian dishes, where the sweetness can tame the heat and enhance the flavors. The wine’s acidity also makes it a surprising match for creamy cheeses or foie gras.
Enjoy this sparkling wine chilled, between 6-8°C (43-46°F), to fully appreciate its effervescence and aromatic complexity. The Vila Paraíso Reserva Doce is a testament to the Douro region’s ability to produce exceptional sparkling wines that can be enjoyed in a variety of settings and paired with a wide range of foods. Whether you are a seasoned wine enthusiast or simply looking to explore new flavors, this wine is sure to delight your senses and leave a lasting impression.
A Douro sparkling *Doce* made in the traditional method! A good sparkler but too sweet for my taste. I'd prefer a Brut. Good fruit, but cloying.
