Description

Château La Lagune is a prestigious estate located in the Haut-Médoc appellation of Bordeaux, classified as a Third Growth (Troisième Cru) in the historic 1855 Bordeaux Classification. The estate is celebrated for its commitment to elegance and finesse, distinguishing it from some of the more robust, muscular wines of the region. Under recent stewardship, the winery has embraced sustainable viticulture, further enhancing the purity of fruit in their wines.

This wine is a classic Bordeaux blend, predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon, supported by Merlot and a touch of Petit Verdot. Upon opening, it reveals a sophisticated nose of cassis, pencil shavings (graphite), and subtle cedarwood, a hallmark of its Médoc origins. On the palate, it strikes a beautiful balance between ripeness and acidity, offering deep layers of dark plum and blackcurrant. The tannins are impeccably integrated, polished by time and careful aging in French oak, leading to a finish that is both persistent and graceful.

Why choose this wine? It represents the quintessence of Left Bank Bordeaux—a wine that manages to be both powerful and exceptionally refined. It is not a wine to be rushed; it deserves to be decanted for at least an hour to allow its complex aromatics to fully unfold. As for pairings, it is a magnificent companion to classic dishes. Serve it alongside a slow-roasted rack of lamb with rosemary, a perfectly seared ribeye steak, or a mushroom-based risotto to accentuate its earthy undertones. Whether you are adding it to a cellar for further aging or opening it for a special dinner, Château La Lagune offers an authentic, high-quality expression of one of the world's most storied wine regions.

Your Notes

Elegant and refined! While it lacks my usual cherry notes, the dark plum and cedar are lovely. It's a splurge, but for a 3rd Growth, the quality makes it a great value for special occasions.
