Red wine | Côtes de Bordeaux, Bordeaux, France
Château d'Aiguilhe is a red wine produced in the Côtes de Bordeaux appellation, specifically in the commune of Aiguilhe, which lies just east of the town of Castillon-la-Bataille. The estate is owned and managed by Stephan von Neipperg, who also owns the prestigious Saint-Émilion classified growth, Château Canon-La Gaffelière, and Château La Mondotte. The estate has been owned by the Neipperg family since 1998.
The vineyards are planted with a classic Bordeaux blend, dominated by Merlot and complemented by Cabernet Franc. The wine exhibits a deep ruby color and a complex bouquet of black cherry, plum, and subtle spice notes, such as clove and cinnamon. On the palate, Château d'Aiguilhe offers a full-bodied experience with firm tannins, balanced acidity, and a lingering finish of dark fruit and earthy undertones.
Serving this wine at around 16°C (60°F) allows its aromas and flavors to fully develop. Decanting for at least 30 minutes before serving is recommended, especially for younger vintages, to soften the tannins and enhance the overall drinking experience.
Château d'Aiguilhe makes an excellent accompaniment to a variety of dishes. Its structure and tannins pair well with roasted meats such as lamb, beef, and game. It also complements hearty stews, grilled sausages, and hard cheeses. The wine's fruit-forward character and subtle spice notes make it a versatile choice for both formal and informal occasions. Why this wine? Because Château d'Aiguilhe showcases the incredible potential of the Côtes de Bordeaux appellation. Under the meticulous stewardship of Stephan von Neipperg, the estate consistently produces wines of exceptional quality and value, offering a glimpse into the terroir and winemaking expertise that define the region.
