Description

The Zauott Montepulciano d'Abruzzo DOC by Di Ubaldo is a truly singular expression of the Abruzzo region, reflecting both deep respect for local tradition and a modern, uncompromising approach to quality. Produced by a family that seamlessly transitioned from the fashion industry to viticulture, this wine is literally and figuratively 'a wine of fabric,' famously featuring an exclusive, artisan-crafted cotton label that makes every bottle a unique piece of art. Grown at 500 meters above sea level on south-facing vineyards, this wine is crafted from the estate's oldest vines, yielding grapes of exceptional concentration. The winemaking process is meticulous, involving submerged cap fermentation for 20 days, followed by 18 months of storage in steel tanks to ensure natural clarification, and a final 6-10 months of aging in a mix of oak barrels and used barriques. The result is a wine of intense personality and complexity, ruby red in color with excellent consistency. On the nose, it offers a sophisticated balance of ripe red fruits, dark berries, and subtle tertiary notes of black pepper, liquorice, and a hint of vanilla derived from its brief time in oak. On the palate, it is full-bodied, intense, and remarkably smooth, characterized by velvety tannins that provide structure without ever becoming aggressive. The finish is persistent, savory, and evocative, leaving a lingering, sensual memory of black cherry. This wine is exceptionally well-suited for hearty, flavorful dishes. It makes a magnificent pairing for traditional, robust Italian first courses with rich red sauces, as well as significant red meat dishes such as grilled lamb, braised beef, or hearty game stews. It also possesses enough structure to stand up to long-aged hard cheeses like Pecorino Abruzzese or Parmigiano Reggiano. With an aging potential of over 15 years, the Zauott is not only a fantastic drinking experience today but also a wine that will reward patience in the cellar, continuing to develop its profound character over time. It is, in essence, a sophisticated yet soulful wine that bridges the gap between the rugged, ancient traditions of Abruzzo and the refined, creative vision of its makers.
