Red wine | Rioja, Spain
Coto de Imaz Gran Reserva is a magnificent expression of the Rioja region, produced by El Coto de Rioja, one of the most prestigious and widely recognized wineries in Spain. Hailing from the Rioja Alta sub-zone, this wine is crafted primarily from high-quality Tempranillo grapes, complemented by a small proportion of Graciano to add complexity, aromatic richness, and structure.
This Gran Reserva undergoes an meticulous aging process that reflects a deep respect for tradition and patience. After fermentation in stainless steel, the wine is matured for a minimum of 24 months in a carefully selected blend of American and French oak barrels. This is followed by a further 36 months of refinement in the bottle before release, allowing the wine to develop its characteristic tertiary aromas and perfectly integrated tannins.
On the nose, the 2019 vintage presents a complex and evolving bouquet. Initial notes of ripe red and black fruits are seamlessly interwoven with elegant nuances of toasted oak, vanilla, coconut, and subtle hints of leather and damp earth. On the palate, it is sophisticated and harmonious, offering a medium to full-bodied structure with silky, polished tannins and a balanced acidity that carries the flavors to a lingering, spicy finish.
This wine is an ideal partner for refined dining. Its structure and depth make it a perfect pairing for hearty, traditional dishes. Enjoy it alongside roasted red meats, such as succulent lamb or beef, game dishes, or mature, hard cheeses. It is also an excellent companion for slow-cooked stews where the wine's tertiary notes can truly shine. Whether celebrating a special occasion or savoring a memorable meal, Coto de Imaz Gran Reserva offers an experience of timeless elegance, embodying the soul of Rioja in every glass.
Not my usual profile, but well-made. Oak is present, but doesn't overpower the fruit. Good value for a special occasion red.
