Description

Le Ragose is a legendary, family-run estate located in the heart of the Valpolicella Classico region, perched high on the hills of Negrar. Founded in 1969 by the visionary oenologist Arnaldo Galli and his wife Marta—often called 'La Signora del Vino'—the estate has long been a bastion of traditional winemaking, prioritizing quality, terroir, and elegance over industrial volume. Their Amarone della Valpolicella Classico is a masterpiece of this philosophy.

This wine is produced using the 'Appassimento' technique, where hand-harvested grapes are carefully dried on racks for months, concentrating their sugars, flavors, and structural components. After slow fermentation with indigenous yeasts, the wine undergoes long aging in large, traditional Slavonian oak casks, which allows it to develop depth and complexity without being overwhelmed by new oak influence.

The result is a powerful yet impeccably balanced red wine. On the nose, it offers an intense bouquet of dried black cherries, plums, and subtle hints of dark chocolate, coffee, and tobacco. On the palate, it is full-bodied, rich, and velvety, with well-integrated, fine-grained tannins that provide a sophisticated structure. It possesses a persistent, long finish that lingers, inviting you to reflect on its complexity.

This Amarone is an exceptional companion for hearty, flavorful dishes. Its depth and richness make it the perfect match for braised red meats, game, such as deer or boar, and rich stews. It also pairs beautifully with aged, savory cheeses like Parmigiano Reggiano or even dark chocolate-based desserts. For a truly authentic experience, try it with a classic 'Risotto all'Amarone'. Due to its structure and aging potential, this wine can be enjoyed now, but it also has the capacity to evolve beautifully in the cellar for well over a decade, making it a stellar addition to any wine lover’s collection.
