Description

The Tedeschi 'Marne 180' is a benchmark Amarone della Valpolicella that perfectly encapsulates the artistry of the Veneto region. The name 'Marne' refers to the unique marl-rich soils of the estate's hillside vineyards, while '180' represents the panoramic 180-degree exposure that ensures optimal grape ripening. This wine is crafted using the traditional 'appassimento' method, where hand-selected bunches are dried in a climate-controlled environment for approximately four months. This crucial process concentrates the sugars and intensifies the flavor profile, resulting in a wine of immense power, depth, and character.

Upon pouring, you are greeted by an intense, deep ruby-red color. The nose is nothing short of sophisticated, unfolding with layered aromas of ripe black cherries, dark plums, and sweet berries, underpinned by elegant notes of vanilla, toasted cocoa, and a hint of exotic spice. On the palate, the Marne 180 is bold and full-bodied, yet surprisingly balanced. The texture is velvety and luxurious, featuring dark fruit flavors—dried plum, blackberry, and kirsch—complemented by sophisticated hints of dark chocolate, freshly roasted coffee, and a whisper of tobacco. The structure is supported by firm yet supple tannins and a backbone of refreshing acidity, characteristic of the best Amarone wines.

This is a wine that demands a centerpiece meal. Its rich, concentrated nature makes it an extraordinary partner for hearty dishes. Pair it classically with braised beef, slow-cooked venison, or lamb shanks to mirror its depth. It is equally sublime when served alongside aged hard cheeses like Parmigiano Reggiano or Pecorino, or even dark chocolate desserts if you want to explore the edges of its complexity.

For the best experience, we recommend opening the bottle at least 30 minutes before serving to allow its complex bouquet to fully awaken in the glass. Serving it at a slightly cool room temperature, around 17°C, will perfectly highlight its aromatic intensity without overpowering its nuanced finish. With an impressive aging potential of 15 to 20 years, this 2021 vintage is not only a delight to enjoy now but will also prove to be a fascinating addition to any cellar for years to come.
