Description

La Poja is a monumental achievement in Italian winemaking and the crown jewel of the Allegrini estate. Conceived in 1979 by the visionary Giovanni Allegrini, this wine was a revolutionary project that challenged the conventions of the Valpolicella region. While tradition dictated the blending of multiple varieties, Giovanni identified a unique, 3-hectare limestone plateau at the summit of the La Grola hill as the perfect terroir to showcase the pure potential of a single grape: Corvina Veronese.

The 2015 vintage is a masterclass in balance and intensity. Grown at 320 meters above sea level, the grapes benefit from the cooling influence of Lake Garda, allowing for a slow, perfect ripening process that preserves acidity while building concentrated, complex flavors. Upon pouring, you are greeted by an intense, deep ruby red color. The nose is sophisticated and layered, offering an alluring bouquet of wild blackberries, black cherries, and plums, delicately interwoven with notes of spice, medicinal herbs, and a subtle balsamic touch.

On the palate, it is full-bodied yet remarkably poised. It combines the inherent power and structure of the Corvina grape with a velvety, elegant texture. The tannins are well-integrated, providing a solid framework for the rich fruit and spicy nuances. This wine is not just a drink; it is an experience that evolves in the glass, finishing with a long, persistent resonance of dark chocolate and licorice.

La Poja is a wine built for the cellar, with an exceptional aging potential that exceeds 20 years. To enjoy it at its best, serve at 18°C and allow it to breathe in a decanter for at least one hour before consumption. This practice helps to awaken its full aromatic spectrum, making it the perfect companion for elevated dining. It pairs beautifully with roasted red meats, game dishes, and is particularly sublime when accompanied by shaved black or white truffles or aged, mature cheeses. This is more than just a bottle of wine; it is a piece of Valpolicella history, capturing the soul of a single, prestigious vineyard in every glass.
