Description

El Enemigo Malbec is a masterclass in modern Argentine winemaking, born from the collaboration between legendary winemaker Alejandro Vigil and historian Adrianna Catena. Produced in the high-altitude vineyards of Gualtallary in Mendoza, this wine is a testament to the potential of Argentine terroir. Unlike many conventional Malbecs that rely on heavy fruit concentration, El Enemigo takes a more sophisticated approach, incorporating a small percentage of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot to add structural complexity, floral nuances, and a refined, spicy undertone. The grapes are harvested at high elevations—nearly 1,500 meters above sea level—where the cool mountain air and calcium-rich, rocky soils force the vines to dig deep, resulting in a wine of remarkable freshness, mineral drive, and tension.

Upon pouring, you are greeted by an expressive, vibrant nose of fresh black plums, ripe blackberries, and a delicate, lifted aroma of violets, punctuated by a subtle hint of black pepper and herbal notes. On the palate, the wine unfolds with a silky, balanced texture that feels both powerful and effortless. Its full body is perfectly supported by firm, fine-grained tannins and a bright, natural acidity that keeps the flavors lively. The finish is long and graceful, echoing the wine's mineral character and subtle savory spices.

This is not just a bottle of wine; it is an experience of Mendoza's unique landscape. It is the perfect choice for those who appreciate a wine that balances intensity with finesse. When it comes to pairing, El Enemigo Malbec truly shines with grilled meats—think Argentine-style asado, a perfectly charred ribeye steak, or slow-roasted lamb. It also pairs beautifully with rich, earthy dishes like wild mushroom risotto or even a platter of aged, savory cheeses. Whether you are looking to elevate a casual weekend dinner or seeking a bottle that will impress at a special gathering, this Malbec delivers an authentic, high-quality expression of one of the world's most exciting wine regions. It is a wine that rewards those who give it a little time to breathe, allowing its complex layers to fully emerge in the glass.

Your Notes

A sophisticated Malbec! Much fresher than the jammy ones I usually avoid. The floral notes and spice make it elegant. Reminds me of a good Bordeaux, but with Argentine soul. Great with steak.
