Red wine | Mendoza, Argentina
From the very beginning of Kaiken in 2002, their singular aim has been to produce the best reflection of Mendoza's finest terroir. Today, they are proud to introduce Kaiken Mai, a superb new wine and the result of a perfect collaboration between climate, soil, and the artful skills of Winemaker Aurelio Montes. This wine, 100% Malbec, is aged for 18 months in new French oak, resulting in a complex and elegant profile.
The nose is greeted with lush violet aromas, complemented by hints of black fruit, dry stone fruit, and mocha chocolate. On the palate, it's robust yet elegant - a distinctively luscious wine that offers roundness, silkiness, and strength, all the hallmarks of a great Malbec. This wine can be enjoyed now, but its structure suggests it will also reward cellaring for many years.
Kaiken is named after a wild goose that crosses the Andes mountains between Chile and Argentina. Aurelio Montes mirrors this journey in his winemaking, drawing from both sides of the Andes. Kaikens have existed since ancient times, being the only inhabitants when the native Pehuenche Indians resided in Mendoza. They are integral to the land and culture, a tribute reflected in the winery's use of their language. ‘MAI’ means ‘FIRST’ in the Pehuenche dialect, signifying the winery's commitment to crafting iconic wines.
Pair this exceptional Malbec with grilled meats, such as Argentinian asado, or rich pasta dishes. It also complements strong cheeses and dark chocolate desserts. The wine's elegance and structure make it a versatile choice for both casual gatherings and special occasions. This wine embodies the spirit of Mendoza and the dedication of Kaiken S.A. to producing world-class Malbec.
