Red wine | Veneto, Italy
Masi Campofiorin is a benchmark for the Ripasso technique, a wine-making process where the wine is refermented on the skins of grapes used for Amarone production. This gives Campofiorin its unique style: rich, intense, and complex. It is crafted primarily from Corvina grapes, with additions of Rondinella and Molinara, grown in the Veneto region of Italy. The result is a wine with a deep ruby red color, and a complex bouquet of ripe cherries, plums, and spicy notes of cinnamon and vanilla. On the palate, Campofiorin is dry, full-bodied, and well-balanced with smooth tannins and a long, satisfying finish. This wine is incredibly versatile and pairs well with a wide range of dishes, including grilled meats, roasted vegetables, and aged cheeses. It is particularly well-suited to hearty Italian dishes like lasagna, osso buco, and risotto with mushrooms. The Masi winery, located in the heart of the Veneto region, has a long and distinguished history dating back to the 18th century. The Boscaini family, who own and manage the winery, are committed to producing high-quality wines that express the unique terroir of the region. The Campofiorin is one of their flagship wines, a testament to their commitment to innovation and quality. This wine does not need to rest long before drinking, but giving it 15 minutes to breathe will improve the flavors. Consider serving it with roasted duck, or other gamey meat, in order to reach the greatest potential of the wine.
A solid, well-made ripasso. Cherry and plum notes are there. A bit modern, perhaps lacking some earthiness but enjoyable with lasagna!
